As usual, there are two typical methods of installation: online or offline (ISO). The online installation should be suitable for a single installation with acceptable bandwidth of the Internet connection (the ISO image is more than 800 MB) while the offline, ISO image version, should be suitable for the mass deployment.
If you want to install it online, download the installer, VS90sp1-KB945140-ENU.exe. Then double click the installer.

Click Run for the following Windows Security warning.

Click Next for the installation wizard welcome page. The page lists down the products that will be updated.

Accept the license terms agreement and click the Next button.

And the installation should begin immediately. You have to wait until the wizard completes the task. Any error will be displayed at the end of the installation.

Firstly, download the SP ISO at the Visual Studio 2008 SP1. This SP installs Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and also the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Please read any important issues from the download page before you start the installation. We need to burn the ISO before we can begin the installation, however this depends on your DVD drive either it supports the ISO direct installation or not. The last time we downloaded the SP1, the file name is VS2008SP1ENUX1512962.iso.
In our case, we need to burn (uncompress) the ISO image into a blank DVD. We are using Roxio Creator DE as shown in the following screenshot. Other CD/DVD writers such as Nero should have the same feature.
Insert a blank DVD into your DVD drive, launch the Roxio Creator > Select the Burn Image menu under the Copy folder on the left window > Select Burn Image to Disc on the right window.

No the next page, browse the location of the downloaded ISO image. Select the drive that contains the blank DVD. Click the red button when finish.

The burning process will start. Wait and wait.

If there is no error, during the ISO image burning process, the following screenshot will be displayed for Roxio. If there is any error or warning, the message(s) will also be displayed here. Exit the Roxio or any other CD/DVD creator that you are using.

When we browse the burned ISO image DVD content, the following are the files and folders screenshot.

Next, re-insert the DVD into the DVD drive. The Autorun will launch the installation wizard welcome page shown below. Click the Next button.

Agree to the license terms and click the Next button.

The VS 2008 SP1 will start the installation. Just wait until the end of the installation process. Any error encountered by the installation wizard will be displayed in the last installation wizard page.

Well, there is no error in this case. Click the Finish button.

Click the Restart Now button to reboot your machine so that all the replaced files, folders and settings are taken into effect.

Verify the SP1 installation by invoking the About Microsoft Visual Studio submenu from the Visual Studio Help menu.

The following Service Pack 1 information should be expected. The SP1 DVD can be used for other machines.
